June 30, 2015 — 5:23 PM EEST
Fenerbahce Sports Club is in talks with companies including Qatar National Bank for a sponsorship deal that will include naming rights to its soccer stadium for the first time, according to a senior Fenerbahce executive.
Potential sponsors also include a Dubai-based company as well as companies in Turkey, said the executive, who asked not to be named because the talks are private. Negotiations for stadium naming rights for 10 years and for jerseys are in an advanced stage and a deal could be signed soon, the official said.
Fenerbahce Futbol AS, which holds rights to Fenerbahce soccer club, jumped as much as 9.3 percent to 41.20 liras at 5:15 p.m. in Istanbul. The soccer club was runner-up to crosstown Istanbul rival Galatasaray in Turkey’s top division Super Lig in the 2014-2015 season. Fenerbahce will compete in qualifiers for the UEFA Champions League this year.
Fenerbahce, whose chairman Aziz Yildirim is facing a re-trial in July after he was sentenced to prison over match-fixing allegations in the 2010-2011 season, plays its home games at Sukru Saracoglu stadium on the Asian side of Istanbul. The stadium is named after a former club chairman and Turkish prime minister.
A spokesman for Fenerbahce didn’t answer phone calls for comment on Tuesday. QNB didn’t respond to requests for comment by phone and e-mail.
